What is solar power

Energy obtained by the Sunlight transformed into electricity using photovoltaic cells (PV), creates what we understand as solar power.

Typically a solar panel will start life as a 6” diameter blank of silicon around 18 inches in length. Silicon resin is used to create ingots quite literally in poly or mono moulding tanks.

The process manufacturing the silicon blanks is done in laboratories under strict hygienic conditions, (Clean Rooms). This is where the micro thin blanks are surgically machined.

These segments are then tested to obtain the relative ‘grade’ performance certification. The segmented parts of the silicon ingot are then assembled, and can then be called solar cells.

Photovoltaic or solar cells are manufactured out of polysilicon, or monosilicon, the cost of poly are usually less than mono, because it takes much longer to process. Therefore when you weigh up the performance differences the poly grade ‘A’ cell against the cost effectiveness of a mono grade ‘A’ solar cell, Differential costs tend to be minimal.

Electricity runs our World therefore it is an easy way to provide the abundance of electricity required, using photovoltaic solar PV panels, in assembled banks of cells, have the ability to turn light into voltage. Sun powered cells create a DC current.

When several cells are linked together this will increase the voltage across the circuit.

Solar modules are the finished article, this is what most people call a solar panel, these have no moving parts which reinforces the life expectancy of 25 years plus, historically most of the high grade ‘A’ equipment manufactured over the last 30 years in Germany is still generating power without fault.
